I have a json file with {"pass": "lkajlajai", ect. When I initialize the storage, it request for a backup passphrase and doesn't seem to use the pass phrase I had stored in the passwords file. I am able to initialize successfully without the encryption.

The init command doesn't load the password from the json file -- the purpose is to give you the chance to enter the password twice to make sure it is correct.
